Irene Malish

Born in the Russian-Caucasus region and based in Rome for more than twenty years, Irene Malish has transformed an early background in design into a pictorial practice centred on the figure, on materiality, and on a marked sense of expressiveness.
Her work unfolds through slow stratifications: the surface is reworked and reopened until a face or a body emerges as a dense presence, charged with a contained emotional current. The expressiveness that runs through her language avoids emphasis; it settles instead in the vibration of colour, in the tension of the features, in the psychological suspension of the figures.
Malish continues to work in Rome, cultivating an equilibrium between controlled gesture, material sensitivity, and emotional clarity, turning each image into a space of resonance and quiet intensity.
