Giampaolo Atzeni
Born in Cagliari, after studying at the Faculty of Architecture in Florence, he spent several years in the world of theatre, touring across Europe with the Third Theatre company “Domus de Janas,” including a participation in the Festival d’Automne in Paris.
He later worked as a photographer, creating reportages in Africa, India, and the Middle East.
From the early 1990s he devoted himself to painting, developing and refining the style that now defines his work. The artist describes it as metaphysical pop: precise lines, flat colours, imaginary and ironic figures and objects—sometimes irreverent—dreamlike symbols, artistic references, and fragments of his own life experiences.
Behind the striking, immediate impact of each painting lies a world to be uncovered gradually, day after day, as nothing is left to improvisation.
After living and working in Florence, Bologna, Genoa, Milan, and Berlin, he opened his studio in Rome in 2007. He has taken part in numerous institutional exhibitions and collaborated with renowned Italian and European galleries with which he has organised solo shows. His works are held in public and private collections in Italy and abroad.
Throughout his artistic career he has also made frequent incursions into the world of design and fashion: from collaborating with BREM, which produces radiator-sculptures featuring figures and symbols from his paintings, to working with Gobbo Salotti on the creation of original and exclusive sofas and armchairs.
In 2020 he opened a studio in Tenerife, in Puerto de la Cruz, where he lives and works for several months each year.
